Best known for directing The Basketball Diaries, Scott Kalvert died this Wednesday. He was found in his home in Woodland Hills and the The L.A. Coroner’s Office is investigating the death as a possible suicide. In addition to his work with Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg in Basketball Diaries, Kalvert was known for directing iconic music videos such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith’s “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” Salt-N-Pepa’s “Shoop” and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’s “Good Vibrations.” He also directed the 2002 feature Deuces Wild, starring Stephen Dorff and the late Brad Renfro. Donnie Wahlberg, whom Kalvert directed in New Kids on the Block’s 1993 video “Dirty Dawg,” remembered the director in these tweets yesterday. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

We all know bacon isn’t the healthiest option. Being a Pescetarian (I eat fish) but with Fukashima in the back of my mind, this doesn’t seem that great of an option either. Anyway, I have mixed feelings about posting this idea, but it HAS to be considered marketing genius. This new iPhone app and device wafts the smell of bacon and wakes you up with the sound of sizzling bacon, while a connected scent device emits a bacon perfume. The ‘wake up and smell the bacon’ app has been developed by Oscar Mayer and while the is readily available and free to download, the smell emitting device is not for sale and only a limited number are available to win. You have until April 4 to take a quiz on Oscar Mayer’s website to win a devices, which comes with a refill of “bacon perfume”. 1. The absolutely magnificent Aaron Paul. Not quite sure I’m prepared to let go of Jesse Pinkman just yet. Don’t know if I accept him as another character, but it sure is nice to see his face show up on my news feed again.

2. Matt Lanter, Matt Lanter, Matt Lanter. So excruciatingly bad on 90210. Really, just a mush-mouthed non-presence. Thank GOD it’s over and I don’t have to watch anymore. But then the THE MOST MIRACULOUS THING HAPPENED. He was cast in Star Crossed, the new CW show that’s part District 9, part Romeo and Juliet, and ALL KINDS OF WONDERFUL. And suddenly he’s ELECTRIFYING. Like a young Marlon Brando, I am not making this up. You can’t take your eyes off of him and his goofy little Eddie Munster hairdo and ink blot tattoos. I just love him. You check him out, Mondays at 8. What else are you doing then?

3. Chris D’Elia. You know: The guy from Whitney. Ohhhh yeah. I’d totally do him. I’d do him five ways to Monday. Ten ways to Monday? Not sure I really know that expression. Whatever. I’d just do naughty things to that man.

4. And darling Corbin Bleu, fresh off his stint on One Life to Live. The WEB version. That got cancelled. Wah wah. Looking for the next gig. Working that red carpet crowd. Working those paparazzi. “It’s the kid from High School Musical!” they say. “Over here! Over Here!” And, oh, that feels good. The flash. It feels like home. Makes you forget the bills, the the agent that avoids your calls, that fucking Zac Efron movie that’s coming out next month…. Just for a second it’s 2007 again. But don’t worry baby. Don’t worry Corbin. It’s coming. It’s right around the corner. You’ll find success. It’ll find you. You’re in it for the long haul. You’ll be around when the rest of these CW twinks are long gone.

I’m making seafood stew right now. (It’s warmer but there’s still snow on the ground) You want my recipé? OK. I’ve looked at a lot of different ones and I just sort of put my favorite bits together. I browned one cup chopped white onion, half a chopped jalapeño and two cloves of minced garlic for about 4-5 minutes in 3 tbsp. of olive oil. Then, I added 1/2 cup of chopped parsley. At the same time, I boiled about a dozen small red potatoes cut in quarters. I added a large can of chopped tomatoes to the onion mixture along with an 8 oz. bottle of clam juice, 1/2 cup of white wine, half a jar of chopped (green) manilla olives with some of the juice. Mixed that with salt, some red pepper flakes and added a can of baby clams along with a pound of frozen seafood (squid, scallops, shrimp, cod, etc.) You can steam some mussels and add those too or whatever seafood you like, as well. Let that simmer, drain and add your red potatoes. Done in 30 minutes. I’ll be eating this all weekend. It’s a really easy dinner party too with red wine, a greek salad and garlic bread. The original story by Tennessee Williams – about an aging star whose life spirals out of control when she falls for a hard-hearted gigolo – was memorably made into a movie starring that OTHER gorgeous Vivian, Vivian Leigh. (Best line: “Beauty is a world of its own. It has a godly license. I know it only too well, I possessed it once. And then the license was revoked.” SIGH.)

“In The Drift,” according to a press release, “JVB creates a new, free associative collage of spoken word and song inspired by The story of Karen Stone, a retired actress who drifts from one space to another – either in her mind, in couture, or in bed.”

Bond, a self-proclaimed “trans-fabulous performance-activist,” earned international acclaim as sloshed septuagenarian lounge singer Kiki Durane of the Tony-nominated duo Kiki & Herb. A new coctail trend has drinkers inhaling, rather than swallowing, alcohol through a glass apparatus designed to heat high volume alcohol. The Vaportini, as it’s been dubbed, by-passes the digestive system, and has the advantage of almost no calories, no carbs, no impurities, and almost instaneous effects. Of course, its disadvantages are that it causes potentially dangerous levels of intoxication and is damaging to your liver and lungs. Also: There’s the whole fire/alcohol problem of burning down your house when you are drunk.

First released in December 2012, the $40 (£28) Vaportini acts in a manner similar to a traditional vaporizer, heating and releasing intoxicating vapors which are breathed through a straw after being heated by a candle to 140 Fahreneheit.

Bypassing the digestive system, the Vaportini causes alcohol to be ingested directly to the bloodstream through the lungs, potentially causing dangerous levels of intoxication – especially if abused.

Inventor and bar owner Julie Palmer created the simple glass and steel contraption after a night in Helsinki inhaling vodka fumes over a coal fire.

After True Detective finished up its epic first season last night (and  apparently crashed HBO GO), there was THIS gorgeous little Game of Thrones Season Four trailer. In it, Sansa laments her family’s fate, Cercei walks with a handsome stranger, Jon Snow broods magnificently over a world that’s fallen apart, and the Mother of Dragons answers injustice with JUSTICE, by God. It all looks absolutely breathtaking, of course. And the YouTube commenters are just making everything worse by saying “Just you wait,”  ”Just wait until the end of the season,” “Get ready to have your mind blown,” and most ominous of all: “The Red Wedding was NOTHING.” Too. Much. Anticipation. Bad for my heart. (I just hope they don’t kill my darling husband Joffrey anytime soon. Umph. The things I would do to that boy.)

Is “Selfie” by the Chainsmokers this generation’s “Valley Girl”? 

Or is it the death of EDM, the death of the selfie, and the death of pop culture as we know it? The song is TERRIBLE, and yet, like “Valley Girl,” “Barbie Girl,” “I’m Too Sexy” or even “The Thong Song”  it holds a mirror to who we are as a society and shows us our true selves. This is what we’ve become: A nation of selfie-obsessed bar skanks. “Selfie” may be lacking in wit and have none of the scathing sociological insight of songs like “Valley Girl,” but then that seems about right for this dumbed-down age, doesn’t it.
