From the press release: ClampArt is pleased to announce “Linda Simpson: Pages,” which coincides with the release of the book of the same title from Peradam (Softcover, 60 pages, 30 color illustrations, 10 x 7 inches, $20).

Back then our drag lingo was pretty blunt, nobody used the term ‘transgender.’ Page was considered a pre-op—a transsexual who hadn’t yet got The Operation (a.k.a. “the chop”). While it’s not uncommon for transsexuals to emerge from the drag scene, she traveled the opposite route. Hormones and feminizing came first, then she joined Channel 69’s queeny sorority. (Her name was conveniently unisex—she was born Page Potter Reynolds in Waspy Vermont.) —Linda Simpson

Linda Simpson (usually Les Simpson during the day) began her multifaceted drag career in the late 1980s. “Pages” is her heartfelt homage to her captivating transgender friend, Page, who passed away in July 2002. Set in bygone gritty New York City in the 1990s, Simpson’s snapshots recall Page’s mysterious beauty, outlandish sense of style, and her provocative performances that made her a cult figure of downtown’s gender-bending nightlife scene. All of the portraits were spontaneous shots taken with simple, point-and-shoot, 35 mm cameras.

In an effort to help support the Human Rights Campaign’s battle against the various “license to discriminate” bills that have cropped up around the country, Sally Field has written a heartwarming letter about the struggles of her gay son Sam Greisman;

“Sam is my youngest son, by 18 years, and he’s gay. To that, I say: So what? Growing up, Sam wanted desperately to just be like his older brothers — athletic, rambunctious and even a little bit macho. He wanted to beat Eli at tennis, trounce Peter at computer football and learn everything about every basketball player on the court. But Sam was different. And his journey to allow himself to be what nature intended him to be was not an easy one. Finally, at 20, long after he beat his brothers at tennis and computer games and knew as much as anyone about basketball, Sam was able to stand up proudly and say, ‘I am a gay man.’ Sam knows that if he ever marries, he’ll have my full support. After all, I like to believe I raised him with the good sense to choose a great partner. But there are people out there — organizations and politicians, strangers who have never even met Sam — who would rather devote themselves to denying his happiness. Why would anyone want to prevent my son — or anyone’s son or daughter — from having basic legal safeguards like family medical leave, Social Security survivors benefits, or health insurance? It doesn’t make any sense — but it won’t change until people speak out. I’m proud to stand with HRC to add my voice. Will you join me? Whether you are LGBT yourself, a parent or grandparent of an LGBT child, or just a great person with strong convictions about what’s fair and right, I hope I’ve convinced you to stand with HRC for equality.”

In early February, Luxury Listings NYC reported that a mystery buyer put both of Mister Jackson’s penthouses in contract for an unknown amount. It’s entirely possible that there’s absolutely no connection between Miss Swift and the Peter Jackson penthouses but over the last week or two Miss Pop Country Superstar has been repeatedly photographed entering and exiting the building (as she is above on March 26th) – that is the same building on top of which Mister Jackson’s ex-penthouses sit. Could it be she’s renting one –or both– of those apartments? Or did she buy them? On the florplan, there are three sets of French doors linking the living/dining space to a library and the eat-in kitchen, there’s a pantry that is a passage to a playroom/den that could probably be pressed into use as seventh bedroom, when the entourage stays over too late. The second floor has two bedrooms and a study that leads to the giant master suite. A 25+ foot long hall lined with 10 or more closets and wardrobes leads back to a separate dressing room and the master bedroom with fireplace. There are two terraces on this floor. All of this could add to the substantial real estate portfolio she is amassing, which currently includes a duplex penthouse in Nashville, a mini-compound in Beverly Hills, and an historic and mansion in Rhode Island that she bought last year for $17.75 million. So, why not add a pair of penthouses in Tribeca? In case you are wondering if she’s overspending on houses, Forbes estimated her 2011 income at $57 million and her 2013 at $55 million. I’m sure she did fine in 2012 too. Real estate is always a good investment and a lot of stars buy and sell houses as hobby, investment – and shelter from the paps too. Roseland Ballroom Lady Gaga Lady Gaga is in New York playing a series of shows at the Roseland Ballroom, which is set to close – for good – in a week. Last night, celebrating her 28th birthday, she performed for just an hour. Before she sang her last song, “Dope” she said, “Thanks for keeping me alive.” After the show, she left in this cab covered in roses. Not just ANY cab – a CHECKER cab. For those of you who are too young to remember or don’t live in NYC, these do not exist any more. I’m guessing that since she’s playing ROSE-land, this is her sartorial and vehicular homage? A self-proclaimed “professional fangirl” who has 4,153,037+ YouTube subscribers, 2,120,00+ Twitter followers, 1,120,000+ Facebook fans, and a VERY active Tumbr account, Tyler Oakley is continuing a now-two-year-old birthday tradition (which he celebrated March 22) with a crowdfunding campaign to benefit The Trevor Project. (My pal James Lecesne co-founded Trevor and I’ve been a supporter for the last 15 years. It’s a truly great organization that does important work. Saving young lives.) Last year, Oakley was able to raise $29,000 for this worthy cause of suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth. On February 10, he announced his intentions to raise $150,000, by way of a Prizeo campaign, with bonuses including Thank You postcards, campaign T-shirts, signed photos, personalized video messages, and more. Plus, an opportunity to win a trip to LA for two to go on a date with Tyler. At this writing he’s raised an amazing $$480,720 and he’s now hoping to hit the $500,000 mark by tomorrow. Platée Mount Olympus Lincoln Center Lady Gaga Hamish Bowles Coco Chanel Chanel anna wintour Yes, baroque hijinks ensue as a Karl Lagerfeld’s doppelgänger plays in a couture comic opera revival first performed in Versailles in 1745, today’s adaption of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Platée by Robert Carsen sees fashion industry figureheads playfully transfigured into gods, with Mount Olympus reimagined as Chanel’s headquarters. “Karl Lagerfeld is an absolutely suitable Jupiter,” says Felipe Sanguinetti, the filmmaker behind this backstage view of Carsen’s riotous production, which also features glimpses of Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles doubles. Lagerfeld (onstage) as Jupiter, played by Edwin Crossley-Mercer, runs into domestic difficulty at the hands of his jealous wife Juno, a tweed-clad Coco Chanel. (Would husband Tom Ford have been more unexpected?) Anyway, the king of the gods goes on to trick Platée — an overweight fashionista — into a doomed romance – and even Lady Gaga even puts in an appearance as ‘La Folie’ (Madness) Of course, even her double will figure out a way to get in on this over-the-top fashion drama. Donatella!) Platée is at Opera Comique in Paris in its final performance tonight and then a concert version opens next week at Lincoln Center in New York on Wednesday, April 2. (via Nowness)

Music 1: How Does A $50 Million Viola Sound? Just Listen…

Though Stradivarius instruments are super rare, violas are without doubt the rarest. There are only ten known surviving models in existence, making this a landmark auction for instrument collectors. Sotheby’s David Redden says, “Every field is defined by one outstanding masterpiece which casts its shadow not only on its own domain but far beyond. The instruments of Stradivari are in a class of their own among the pinnacles of human craftsmanship and the ‘Macdonald’ Viola stands at the unquestioned summit.” Violist David Aaron Carpenter (pictured) will be playing the instrument at Sotheby’s in Paris and New York in the run-up to the auction. You can see him in action on the Macdonald here. Made in 1719, the Macdonald is made of alpine spruce on the front panel and a single piece of maple for the back. The original varnish applied by Stradivarius himself is almost completely intact. Soloist Carpenter commented: “This viola represents the pinnacle of human achievement in instrument-making, and it is in incredibly good condition. Almost as though you ordered a viola from Stradivarius and 300 years later he handed it you.” The Macdonald viola is expected to sell for an amount in excess of $45 million.
