Isabelle Collin Dufresne, aka Ultra Violet, who was one of Warhol’s superstars, died early Saturday at a Manhattan hospital. She later condemned her former Factory drug use, free sex and became a Morman. She worked as an artist up until her death and just had an exhibit at the Dillon Gallery in Manhattan this spring, “Ultra Violet: The Studio Recreated,” that closed just three weeks ago. Collin Dufresne was in her late 20s when she met Andy Warhol while having tea at the St. Regis Hotel with Salvador Dalí, who was a lover and an early mentor. She made her debut in Warhol’s “The Life of Juanita Castro,” an improvised black-and-white political comedy. As Ultra Violet, she appeared in seventeen films, not counting numerous documentaries made later about the the Factory. In Famous for 15 Minutes: My Years With Andy Warhol, Ultra Violet’s 1988 memoir, she wrote about her return to religion after a nervous and physical breakdown. And she denounced the person she had been during the Warhol years as an “unleashed exhibitionist chasing headlines.” In a 2011 interview with USA Today, she said;

“I mean, it was an exciting era in that there was a cultural revolution going on. I think we are constantly in some kind of a flux.”

She could be a serious interview subject, as when in David Henry Gerson’s 2011 documentary, Ultra Violet for Sixteen Minutes, she announced,

“As you come closer to your true nature, you are more fulfilled.”

But she could also jab back. At an arts festival in Bridgehampton in 2010, she and her longtime Factory friend, the late Taylor Mead, were confronted by a young interviewer who had no idea who they were and asked them, “Whose work do you like?” and “Why are you here?” Ultra Violet said, as though she were back in the Factory days;

“I like my own work. We are here because we are world-famous.”

It was a powerful episode last night, to be sure. Brienne and the Hound, Tyrion and Tywin, and Cersei and Jamie all had amazing scenes together. And connecting it all was a rousing reworking of the Game of Thrones theme song sung by a children’s choir. In that final scene, as Arya ran to the front of the ship bound for Braavos and the music swelled, I actually started crying. She’s free. She’s free to pursue her own destiny, whatever that may be. Deeply unsettling interview with fashion photographer/alleged sexual predator Terry Richardson in New York magazine this week. It’s a definite must-read, mostly because it feels like the writer is saying “Sex abuse, sex abuse… sure, whatever… but IT’S AAAAAHHHHHRT!” I’m a bit confounded by the art and fashion world’s continued preoccupation with Richardson, and the media feeding into it. Giving him a cover story is tantamount to saying he gets a free pass from them. Yuck.

Here are his quotes about the sexual nature of his shoots and the allegations of sexual misconduct:

On the atmosphere of his sexual shoots: “It was never just me and a girl ever. It was always assistants, or other people around, or girls brought friends over to hang out. It was very daytime, no drugs, no alcohol. It was a happening, there was energy, it was fun, it was exciting, making these strong images, and that’s what it was. People collaborating and exploring sexuality and taking pictures.”

On not forcing models to do anything: “When I was taking those pictures… I was very, like, ‘Cool, sounds great, let’s do it, great, okay, sure, great, cool, if not, no problem, never do anything you don’t want to do, of course, I totally respect that.’” He makes the point that agents and bookers shouldn’t encourage their clients to take on assignments that will make them uncomfortable.”

On if he has any regrets: “I don’t have any regrets about the work at all. but obviously I don’t ever want someone to feel like that. It was never my intention. But also, people do things, and then they have regrets, and that’s also nothing to do with me. Then don’t do pictures like that again … I’m okay with myself about everything, and that to me is the most important thing.”

Legendary legend Kevin Aviance needs your help raising $100,000 to get hip surgery, after 20+ years of performing in stiletto pumps (not to mention a brutal 2006 gay bashing) have taken their toll on his body. “When us ‘queens’ sign up for this fabulous career of doing drag to entertain all of you, the one thing we’re NOT given is medical insurance,” he writes.

I’ve been known for my over-the-top shows and the way I move on stage and now that has been taken away from me. I can barely walk and it’s been struggle to even put a pair of heels on to just host shows but I have to bite the bullet and deal with the pain for now to survive. My doctor has informed me that I need to have a double hip replacement which frightens me because of the recovery period and costs involved. He told me if I proceed,   I’ll be able to move again within 4-5 months after my surgery the way I used to in the past. I mean, I can’t prance around on jukeboxes in heels anymore but I can perform on stage the way I used to when I was in my 20′s and 30′s. I need to raise some coins to pay for the surgery. So, this is another reason why I’ve been MIA for the past few years. I’ve been depressed about the situation and in a lot of pain. I recently decided to make a comeback because I’ve gotta eat and pay my own bills but i do have the urge to make a full comeback and perform around the world again but need to take care of this matter first.

She tweeted, “Our baby girl River Rose Blackstock arrived on June 12th! Thank you everyone for all of your well wishes! Brandon and I are on cloud nine!!” Congrats to the happy couple, I wish you sleep filled nights.

The weather has been SO nice the last three days here in New York that just walking around, famous or not, is the preferred pastime. Apparently, even if you have to pretend not to notice the paps. I can only imagine the commotion that Kimye cause when they appear with baby north – with EVERYONE in the vicinity taking pictures, not just the guys who sell them. It’s like seeing big foot (more like big ass) And if you don’t have a baby, where I live in the West Village, then you must have a dog, but please not both – that’s overkill.

Out running errands in my neighborhood I looked to up to see Google Headquarters on 9th Avenue had adorned their logo with rainbow stripes in honor of gay pride month. They alter their logo everyday on Google.com but in 3D, it was a nice thing to see from such a huge visible company. Thanks.

Last year Allstate launched a print ad campaign directed at the LGBT community with the slogan “Being visible should never leave you feeling vulnerable” which featured a gay couple holding hands. This year they have expanded it to include an animated film set to “Safe in My Hands,” a new song from out singer-songwriter (and cutie) Eli Lieb. Says Allstate;

“We believe everyone should be treated with respect and without judgment no matter who they love.”

Hunky Belgian superstar Stromae has an intriguing video that’s part Gladiator part Maze Runner and part Game of Thrones opening. It’s definitely one of the best videos I’ve seen all year. The lyric translations are a little clunky, but apparently “ta fête” can be translated as both “your party” and “we’re going to hit you,” so the whole song is a pun about… I don’t know… being trapped in a society that’s out to get you. Or something like that. Just go with it.

That Stromae, though, is pretty charismatic, isn’t he? I love the outfit, I love the video, and I love the song. He made his US debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night. You can watch it here.

It ranks as one of the most surreal moments in pop culture history. Twenty years ago today, football legend OJ Simpson lead authorities on a wild chase across LA’s freeways after being asked to surrender in connection to the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, the hunky Ron Goldman. The chase was broadcast live on television around the world, and it remains on of those “Where were you?” moments that people of a certain generation love to trot out at parties. (Where was I? I had been up for four days – which made it all the more surreal – and I remember the manager of the Tunnel brought a TV down from the offices and the entire club stopped to watch).

During the trial process, World of Wonder made a documentary for the BBC called OJ Mania: The Media Trial of OJ Simpson. It was a probing analysis of the media mayhem and madness surrounding the OJ Simpson story, raising key questions about society, justice, and morality in the age of television. Watch it in its entirety below.

Fanboys and comic purists be damned. Zack Snyder is going to destroy DC any way he pleases. News today that Lex Luthor will have hair has sent many into a tizzy, of course. But Gene Hackman had hair, and John Shea had hair on Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman and didn’t Kevin Spacey have hair, too? Or a wig? Or something?  I think the bigger issue is that this incarnation of Lex is reported by insiders to have Eisenberg’s trademark  ”spastic mannerisms.” Then there’s this:

As for LexCorp itself, it’s going to have a basketball court for a lobby and it’s supposedly “fucking awesome.” Yes ladies and gentlemen, LexCorp has now officially become a Google/Facebook hybrid.

Because Jesse Eisenberg is obviously playing Lex Luthor as Mark Zuckerberg. BLERG. Lex Luthor is smooth motherfucker. Not some Asperger-y nerd. GET IT TOGETHER.

It’s still early days for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the more we see of the film’s progress, the more questions we’re going to have over artistic choices out of context. Perhaps, if we just take each piece one step at a time, and evaluate the whole once it’s assembled, we’ll enjoy the proceedings more? Or, perhaps, Kevin Smith will have a good reason for why this incarnation of Superman should be teaming up with Armie Hammer instead of Ben Affleck. After all, he seems to know everything DC’s doing, so surely he knows why this is all happening?

All of these questions and more will be answered when Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
