Wearable Technology: Fashion’s First GPS Jacket

The jacket that guides you to your destination via lights and gentle thumps.

So cool, omg. The Navigate jacket is a  GPS-enabled jacket (via a companion app) with LEDs embedded into the white ribbon stripes on the sleeves that light up one-by-one the closer you are to your destination, and little vibration motors in the shoulders that taps you if you should turn left or right. Their customers, they explain, are 18-35-year-old fashion-concious individuals in an unfamiliar environment who don’t have the luxury of looking at maps, because they’re riding a bike, for instance, or they’re blind – HELL, I DON’T KNOW WHY THEY CAN’T LOOK AT A BLOODY MAP, JUST GO WITH IT. The most important aspect of the Navigate Jacket, though, is that it’s totally adorable. “The biggest challenge with the wearable experiments, ” says Sydney-based co-founder Billie Whitehouse, “was making it comfortable and wearable and attractive so you don’t look like a computer.” Which I would think would go without saying, but, you know, FASHION, who knows, amiright?

So Lindsay Lohan taped her much-hyped 2 Broke Girls appearance, and by all accounts it was as big a train wreck as you would imagine.

“[We, the audience members] are very familiar with every single one of Lindsay Lohan’s lines and can repeat them all verbatim to you because we heard them so many times last night. There is not a member of the audience who couldn’t do a better job than Lindsay Lohan did last night.”

Via Star Pulse:  ”Lindsay had a lot of trouble stringing together the various permutations required… the lines were reduced and reduced. There was no point in trying to get it all right because it was not going to happen.” According to the audience member, producers even began changing Lindsay’s lines to make it easier for her.

The post added: “Lips so plumped out she couldn’t really get them open because of her Botox which also caused her to have trouble pronouncing certain words. Of course she won’t be able to pronounce anything if she keeps smoking because her voice is rapidly disappearing into some type of screaming smoking raspy hell hole.”

“There was a scene later on in the show that required Lindsay to say the words Hawaii and Bahamas in succession. She couldn’t move her Botoxed muscles enough to get that combination down without pausing between each.”

“Forrest Jessee fashioned the structural pleat of the Sleep Suit to 1) look like the most badass of hornets’ nests–obviously, and 2) provide perfect ergonomic support of the body in variable positions and during sleepytime movements, as well as maximize airflow so you don’t, you know, die in there. The Sleep Suit is intended to be compact and portable, and wearers should be able to put it on and take it off in less than a minute. It also addresses a component some perceive as missing from the Dymaxion sleeping process: entering–and then leaving–an environment designed and designated solely as a haven for the body to rest.”

World of Wanders: Pinned Up At The Stedelijk

Pinned Up at the Stedelijk Marcel Wanders Design Art The Stedelijk Museum, in Amsterdam, has mounted Marcel Wanders: Pinned Up at the Stedelijk. The super-talented Wanders is internationally renowned for his product, furniture and interior designs, as well as art direction and this is the first major design exhibition to be presented at the Stedelijk following its reopening. Ranging from the late 1980s to the present more than 400 objects are on display in the museum’s new wing which encompass Wanders’ furniture, lamps, utensils, cutlery, wallpaper, packaging, and jewelry. The show also includes images of interiors, design sketches, prototypes, experimental work in small editions, “virtual interiors” and new experimental digital work.

Conceived in three parts, there’s a white zone, which offers an analysis of Wanders’ work based on 10 different themes, a black zone presenting work of a more personal and experimental nature and a lounge where Wanders’ role as Art Director for design brands, including Moooi, is explored. All of Wander’s iconic works are featured, like the Set Up Shades lamp (1989), the Knotted Chair (1995-1996), and the Airborne Snotty Vases (2001). Many other designs, some of which were created especially for this exhibition, are on view for the first time. “Marcel Wanders is a creative and innovative force as a designer, driven by a clear and distinctive vision from the very start of his career” says Ingeborg de Roode, Curator of Industrial Design and the organizer of this exhibit. “Few designers can boast such a combination of talents. Now, at the zenith of his 25-year career, it is a perfect time for a museum analysis of his influential professional practice.”

I’ve been pricing tickets to London, Amsterdam and possibly the South of France and this show, along with the newly reopened Van Gogh museum, is at the top of my to-do list, if that ticket gets booked. Woody Allen Stardust Hotel Photography mia farrow celebrity scandal Another tibit from the latest Julien’s Auction House upcoming sale… it’ not a recent letter, but I’m curious to see what it sells for. From the auction catalogue:
“Letter handwritten on Stardust Hotel stationery from Woody Allen to Mia Farrow containing eight black and white original vintage photographs taken by Woody Allen with annotations on verso. Letter reads in full, ‘Enclosed are some rare photos I took just before giving up photography. I love you, For further proof of this please get in touch with me upon your return. xxx W.’ One photograph is of Allen’s The Front (Columbia Pictures, 1976) co-star Zero Mostel. From the collection of Mia Farrow.”

SO many follow up questions that we’ll never know the answers to. There are other letters and photos in the auction from Frank Sinatra, who Mia was married to, so you wonder who is auctioning these artifacts off. St Patricks Day parade Samual Adams New York LGBT rights Heinken gay mercers equality for all Boston A second beer maker has withdrawn its sponsorship of a St. Patrick’s Day parade because of its refusal to allow gay and lesbians to march openly. Heineken said it would’t participate in New York’s upcoming St. Patrick’s Day celebration; “We believe in equality for all. We are no longer a sponsor of Monday’s parade.” Boston Beer, the parent company of Sam Adams, pulled out of Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day parade yesterday after a popular Boston bar said it would stop selling its products, “until such time as either the Parade organizers change their position, or Sam Adams removes its support of the St. Patrick Day Parade.” I gotta say I’m happy all around – besides Amstel Light & Corona, those are two of my favorite beers and I’ll remember this the next time I order one. It has some of THE most dramatic city views in a city full of great views. Are you hungry? Hung-over? Go for tea or a Bloody Mary any afternoon or to brunch, which is now being served on Sundays. Get dressed up, otherwise you might not get in to what I consider, besides the Rainbow Room at the top of Rockefeller Center and the Pool Room at The Four Seasons, one of the most beautiful public rooms in New York City. Go ahead, put it on your to-do list (it might be a splurge, but a drink or brunch can’t be THAT expensive…) and the next time you are in the city, make a memory. At the gorgeous art deco Egyptian Theater in the heart of Hollywood, a cavalcade of celebrities showed for the premiere of  Alec Mapa‘s documentary Baby Daddy. The show is based on his shelarious one man show centered around the adoption of his son Zion. Walking the red carpet were gAy-listers (below) Jake Shears, Bruce Vilanch, Reichen Lehmkuhl (with friend), Frank DeCaro, AND JAMES ST. JAMES (OMG!) The show. was. EVERYTHING! Heart warming,  hysterical, thought provoking, and just… WONDERFUL! The takeaway? Alec’s SPOT ON impersonation of Bette Davis singing Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus!
Says Alec of the doc:

Three years ago my husband and I adopted a five year old African American boy out of the LA County foster care system. “Baby Daddy” is  an evening of stand up comedy that recounts our harrowing, circuitous journey to fatherhood in excruciating detail: How my husband and I learned about the foster adopt  system (A stint on a Rosie O’Donnell “R” Family Cruise) attending parenting classes in Los Angeles (mostly gay and lesbian prospective parents learning about baby proofing all our fountains and pools) and the ultimate game changer: meeting our son for the very first time and taking him home. Intercut with scenes from our home life and backstage footage, “Baby Daddy” goes beyond the standard stand up comedy special and documents the creation of our unconventional trio, and how ultimately love defines a family. ”Baby Daddy” was performed live in Los Angeles and New York City and won the prestigious Bistro award and was nominated for a GLAAD  and United Solo award for best off Broadway solo show.

Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist “Church”, Dying

Anti-gay jackass Fred Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist “Church” and “Gods Hate Fags” infamy, is near death according to a Facebook post Saturday night by his son Nathan Phelps, who left the church and his family’s compound in 1976 when he was 18. He writes:
“I’ve learned that my father, Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the “God Hates Fags” Westboro Baptist Church, was ex-communicated from the “church” back in August of 2013. He is now on the edge of death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made. I feel sad for all the hurt he’s caused so many. I feel sad for those who will lose the grandfather and father they loved. And I’m bitterly angry that my family is blocking the family members who left from seeing him, and saying their good-byes.”
Nathan was the 7th of thirteen children who have left Westboro. He has been a vocal LGBTQ advocate, and speaks out against the dangers of religion and child abuse.
