You may remember that the internet went nuts saying that Uma Thurman had gone under the knife after she appeared looking like this (above left). Wow’s Adam Asea posed the question of her look “Is It Really That Dramatic?“, and I got into a few heated online discussions myself. I’m not here to say “I told you so…” no, that’s EXACTLY what this post is – an “I told you so!” I worked as an art director for many years and I’ve have spent COUNTLESS hours of my life examining (rather closely), editing even marking up photos for retouching. I really CAN tell if a face has been cut, if there may have been injectables, (much harder to tell) or if the makeup is just different.

SO, in fact, Uma WAS asked about this internet dust-up in an interview on The Today Show yesterday, and apparently, all she did was switch up her makeup routine:

“I know I look weird. I don’t know, I guess nobody liked my makeup.”

Thurman’s makeup artist, Troy Surratt, told Refinery29 that he opted not to use any mascara or eyeliner:

“We did a much stronger brow and a bold lip for a French sort of feel. I applied a creamy foundation for all-over glow, and then contoured the hairline and her cheekbones, adding warmth. I applied the lip… and then we just kept the eyes really, really light.”

Uma said about her showbiz experience:

“I’ve been doing this for years and years and years –people say things nice and they say things mean and it’s like, ‘Whatever.’ You take the good with the bad.”

Good attitude. She realizes she’s living in the age of plastic surgery as spectator sport. (As the cliché goes, opinions are like *sssholes, everybody has one.) And, as you know, women “of a certain age” are the prime targets of this online pastime. Age-bashing, I think it’s called. Last October, we saw some MAJOR target practice with Reneé Zellweger‘s “new face” (I came to her defense here.) Nobody actually came out in print and said Uma had work done (they could have asked nearly ANY plastic surgeon and they would have said, “no”) but the assertion that she was “unrecognizable” was pretty clear. I know I look different as time goes by, so, what’s the crime in aging –or even trying to hold back time, by whatever means. Ain’t nobody’s business but my own, unless you’re over 40 in Hollywood, then it’s fair game, I guess. We saw a LOT of speculating, how about some apologizing?
