Iris Smyles is both the author and the fictional main character in the book Iris Has Free Time. I’m assuming it’s a parody of a certain type of soi-distant East Coast socialite/writer but I’m not quite sure. I haven’t read it. In this promotional (?) video, the magniloquent Iris Smyles introduces us to her her manservant Frederic and her guard plant Epstein. She eats and gets dressed while spouting Vreelandesque aphorisms like “I compose all my novels on the Ouija,” “If you aren’t introduced to luxury early, you might reserve it for special occasions” and “After lunch we dance. I despise music. I prefer to move to the rhythm of my thoughts.” It’s all raaawther hysterical and worth checking out. In fact, it actually made me want to buy the book (Iris Has Free Time available on Amazon).
You love her, right? I think I’ve found my spirit animal!

It’s PURE OSCAR BAIT. Remember I said this come January.

Now some charitable folks on YouTube (an oxymoron if ever I heard one) are saying that SURE, he may have been digging in his ears, and then INCIDENTALLY he may have realized he needed to bite his nails, but the two things are ENTIRELY NON-RELATED. He did not lick anything, he did not swallow anything, and he did not chew anything, and furthermore why don’t you all grow up?

Do you sometimes find yourself watching Game of Thrones and wishing it had more musical numbers? Well, ABC has answered your prayers with Galavant, a musical comedy fairy tale series coming this summer. From this trailer, it looks to be part Monty Python, part Princess Bride, part Into the Woods and COMPLETELY CHARMING. The musical numbers are all written by the legendary Alan Menken, best known, of course, for his Disney scores (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted, Pocahontas etc etc etc), so it’s got quite an impressive pedigree. Also of interest: It stars Vinnie Jones, of Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Smoking Barrel fame, who’s usually the best part of any production he’s in. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by this trailer. Or you might throw up. I don’t know. But tweet me your reaction @JSJdarling.

According to Screen Daily, FREAKIN’ KURT HUMMEL is attached to star in Noel, a biopic focusing on the early life of gay English playwright Noel Coward. Dear God in heaven. What next? Carson Kressley as Oscar Wilde? Chris Crocker as Cole Porter? Clay Aiken as Cecil Beaton? (Actually, I would watch all of those).
Anyway: It announced today that the biopic about Noel Coward will Glee’s Chris Colfer as the young playwright. The project is also said to be in casting talks with British legends Vanessa Redgrave, Sir Ian McKellen, and Jonathan Pryce. Colfer perhaps confirmed his involvement by posting a photo of Coward on his Instagram account, moments after Screen Daily’s article went live.
From hypable: Noel Coward was born in southwest London at the turn of last century. He was known – in addition to his nearly 50 published plays and his work as an actor, director and screenwriter for film – for his wit and flamboyance, and for his influence on 20th century writers. Some of his more famous works include Easy Virtue, which had a 2008 film adaptation starring Colin Firth, and Private Lives, a play which has experienced countless Broadway and West End revivals, starring – over time – everyone from Maggie Smith to Sex In The City’s Kim Cattrall.
Coward, both the man himself, who died in 1973, and his many works, are quintessentially English, a staple of the history of London theatre, so it will be interesting to see Chris Colfer – a California native with an admitted obsessive love for period drama and British culture in general – take on a role which may have been more expected to go to a young British actor. Noel – which was developed by the BFI (British Film Institute) with the support of the Noel Coward Estate – aims to shoot in the late summer, so with Glee’s next season not returning until 2015, Colfer will have plenty of spare time to perfect his English accent!

Lady Gaga leaves her New York City apartment looking exactly like 63-year-old Bruce Fonda, the elderly Michigan man known as technoboy53 who was arrested this week on child pornography charges.
Via the Daily Mail: Fonda has been charged with three counts of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive activity and three additional counts of use of a computer to commit a crime. The 63-year-old man was picked up May 7. In his booking photo, he appears wearing bright-orange high-top snickers, lemon-yellow pants and a short-sleeve plaid shirt over a black sweater. He is being held on $50,000. Fonda’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 20.
I love that his online name of technoboy53. Not technoboy63. He shaved 10 years off his age to seem younger and more “with-it.”

When we first met Jordin Sparks on season 6 of American Idol, she was a bit on the thicker side and obviously gorgeous, but that wasn’t good enough for her. Since leaving Idol Jordin has been working steadily on her health and her body and the proof is in the pudding and the pudding just happens to be a bikini. Matt Camper, an urban entomologist at Colorado State University, has created a bed bug tattoo gun – made of a jar, some wire mesh and 1,000 hungry bed bugs. You simply invert the jar onto your skin, let the bed bugs bite, and later admire the pink, temporary tattoo they leave behind. He put the image of a bunny on the mesh for HIS temporary tattoo, but you could put a skull or a flower or the Chinese symbol for PEACE, whatever you’re into.
Wildlife expert Ellie Harrison says to wait a couple hours afterwards for the bites to really turn a fun color of red. “Two hours after the bed bugs have fed, the inflammatory response really kicks in and immune cells will flood into the tissues from the blood, producing redness and swelling and heat,” she says.

In case you’re wondering, the bed bug tattoos don’t really hurt so much. Biologist Carin Bodnar says that when the bed bugs bite, they release something called a stylet into the skin. “There’s two tubes here, and through one of these tubes they’re sending in their saliva. And the saliva has both an anticoagulant – a chemical that actually keeps the blood from clotting up – and also an anesthetic, so this is really good because whoever they’re biting can’t feel it.”
