Trans icon Justin Vivian Bond makes her triumphant return to Joe’s Pub this week in an original performance piece based on The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone. Oh, to be back in New York! If you’re in the area YOU HAVE TO GO and tweet me (@JSJdarling) all about it.

The original story by Tennessee Williams – about an aging star whose life spirals out of control when she falls for a hard-hearted gigolo – was memorably made into a movie starring that OTHER gorgeous Vivian, Vivian Leigh. (Best line: “Beauty is a world of its own. It has a godly license. I know it only too well, I possessed it once. And then the license was revoked.” SIGH.)

“In The Drift,” according to a press release, JVB creates a new, free associative collage of spoken word and song inspired by The story of Karen Stone, a retired actress who drifts from one space to another – either in her mind, in couture, or in bed.”

The Drift is scheduled for six performances from March 13 through April 11. For tickets, visit joespub.com.

Bond, a self-proclaimed “trans-fabulous performance-activist,” earned international acclaim as sloshed septuagenarian lounge singer Kiki Durane of the Tony-nominated duo Kiki & Herb. The Shortbus star has also penned a memoir, Tango: My Childhood, Backwards and in High Heels, and released a solo album, Dendrophile.
